Beautiful Bells Vol 1

Beautiful Bells Vol. 1 features the solo ringing of 76 swinging bells recorded across 43 churches, cathedrals, abbeys, basilicas, and chapels throughout France, along with 15 full peals (plenum) captured with exceptional clarity. Most recordings were made inside bell towers for maximum authenticity.

Swinging bells are played by a freely moving clapper and naturally produce pitch shifts due to the Doppler effect, along with subtle tonal changes as their orientation varies. The result is a rich, dynamic sound traditionally used for masses, religious celebrations, weddings, and funerals.

This collection spans the full range of bell sizes—from massive bourdons (below C3) weighing several tons to small chapel bells of around 20 kilograms. It includes bells cast between the 16th and 21st centuries, offering a wide diversity of tonal colors and tunings. Sounds are organized by note, from D2 to F5.

By grouping solo recordings by location, you can recreate authentic bell ensembles, or freely design your own combinations and even use the sounds musically in compositions.

All recordings were captured inside or as close as possible to bell towers to ensure excellent clarity and optimal signal-to-noise ratio.

Created over six months and more than 12,000 kilometers of travel, this library stands as one of the most comprehensive collections of swinging bell recordings ever produced.
